Family Planning: Pregnancy 101

Parenthood is fulfilling, and at the same time stressful and overwhelming. It involves a roller coaster of emotions! One day, you are buying baby milk bottles in Malaysia, and then tomorrow you are worrying about your baby’s health. Your first and only baby is keeping you forever busy, but surely, you would love to have more kids.

So, are you considering another kid? Make sure to research on family planning and pregnancy spacing first. Below are the most basic things you need to know.

How important is family planning?

How many children do you want in the next few years? Planning this well would help you and your partner get ready for everything. Having children can change your life entirely, so make sure that you are altering your life for the better.

Are you ready to care for a newborn once again? How will your first child react to sharing the attention with a new little one? Pregnancy timing is important as well. This can heavily affect the health of the baby and the mother.

According to research, getting pregnant within 6 months after giving birth can increase the risks of:

  • Congenital disorders
  • Schizophrenia
  • Premature birth
  • The placenta completely or partially peeling away from the uterus’ inner walls, before delivery.
  • Low birth weight

Professionals say that getting pregnant in less than 2 years following a birth can be associated with an increased risk of autism. Moreover, closed spaced pregnancies will not give a mom ample time to recover from the previous pregnancy.

What is the best time interval?

In order to lessen the risk of complications during pregnancy, as well as other health problems, health professionals suggest waiting around 2 years, but less than 5 years, after a live birth before getting pregnant. If you are much older than 35 years old, you might consider waiting 1 year before getting pregnant again.

The recommendations and risks don’t apply to mothers who have had a miscarriage. Are you feeling ready and healthy? Then, there is no need for you wait longer to conceive.
